An Exhibition of Paintings by Bhajju Shyam, Japani Shyam, Mayank Shyam and Ram Singh Urvetti.
These prolific artists belong to the district of Mandala of Madhya Pradesh. Mayank and Japani were born and brought up in Bhopal while Ramsingh Urveti and Bhajju Shyam came from Mandala and settled down in Bhopal. They belong to the same community of Pradhan Gond.
Jangarh Singh Shyam, one of the most brilliant musicians from the community, started painting the images from the songs which he was singing in his childhood. His way of painting became known to the world when he came to work at Bharat Bhavan. His style is known as “Jangarh Kalam”.
These four artists are working in the same style and they can be called painters of “Jangarh Kalam”. They have their own stories and sensibilities of the community which are being shown in their works. They do not represent the outer world but rather imagine the representation of reality of the world. It is very unique and is deeply rooted in the music. Here in all the works you find rhythmical approach towards the subject and harmonious colour scheme supports it. All these artists are more urban in their approaches to the form rather than tribal.
