« Smala » is a word which comes from North Africa and means “Family”, and evoques the feeling of warmth that family inspires. SAM SMALA is like a family of musicians who play their own songs. These five incredible performers are inspired by jazz, gypsy jazz and word music. Their show is a mix of live jazz performance and World song. They create a fusion between jazz and world music. This band takes you from Havana to Paris, from New York to Istambul, without pretention and with a full enjoyment of life. They want to share their musical spirit with everyone. They have been playing together for ten years before the creation of the band SAM SMALA. They are all great jazzmen who have studied in some of the greatest music schools in the world, the Conservatory of Paris and the New York’s Drummers collective. SAM SMALA represents a new French generation of Jazz and song musicians. They are currently working on the band’s first album which will be released at the end of 2010.
